Public excitement builds for Observer Women’s World Cup competition

Entries are pouring in for the Jamaica Observer Reggae Girlz Ultimate Fan Promotion, which will send one lucky reader and their guest to France to experience the Reggae Girlz’s historic appearance at the Fifa Women’s World Cup this summer.

“We have been receiving entries daily, running into the hundreds,” Observer Head of Advertising, Marketing and Communication Natalie Chin said yesterday.

For a chance to win, Observer readers have to fill out an entry form published in the newspaper, attach any Wata label, and then deposit the complete package at any of the 57 Total gas stations across the island or any Jamaica Observer office in Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Mandeville.

Chin noted that it was not possible to say how many entries have been received at the Total gas stations, as the collection boxes are sealed. However, readers, in addition to sending in entries, have been coming to the Observer’s Beechwood Avenue headquarters in St Andrew and purchasing additional copies of the newspaper in order to fill in the entry forms.

The competition, which was launched on Thursday, March 7, will run until Sunday, April 21.

The draw will be conducted on Thursday, April 25 and the winner announced the following day. Readers may enter as often as they wish.

For the competition, the Observer has strategically partnered with the Girlz’ hydration sponsor Wisynco, through its popular Wata brand; French-owned Total service stations; British Airways, which has maintained flights and high-class service to Jamaica since 1946; Sandals Resorts International, and is endorsed by the Jamaica Football Federation.

The winner and their guest will enjoy round trip tickets from Kingston via London, US$1,500 spending money, hotel accommodation for two, and will attend the Girlz’ opening match against Brazil on June 9.

Chin noted that the competition will end in time for the winner to apply for the appropriate visas.

“We value our readers who buy the newspaper everyday and we felt that we needed to have one lucky reader experience an amazing moment in history; and when the Girlz qualified we thought, what an opportunity to have a lucky reader and their guest to go to France,” Chin had said at the launch.
