#Champs2019: Cbar’s Brown leads triple jump finalists with record leap
KINGSTON, Jamaica — After picking up silver in the boys’ Class two long jump, Calabar’s Luke Brown signalled intentions to go one better as he led qualifiers in the triple jump event.
Brown ignited day four of the 109th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships, underway way at the National Stadium, with a massive 15.34 metre leap the fifth record of this championships.
His mark registered in flight two of the qualifiers, bettered the old record of 15.05m set last year by Apalos Edwards.
Brown’s teammate and long jump gold medallist Jordan Turner led the qualifiers in flight one with a mark of 13.91m.
Kingston College’s pair of Jaheim Cox (14.65m) and Tajae Francis (13.39m) also progressed with the Wolmer’s Boys pair of Tyrique Wheatley (13.77m) and Iangelo Atkinstal (13.63m).
Kingston College continues to lead the standings on 64 points, one ahead of defending champions Calabar on 63 points after seven events scored.
