#Champs2019: Gold for Clarendon College in girls’ Class 2 discus
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Clarendon College’s Roxene Simpson upset her more fancied rivals to win gold in the girls’ Class two discus on day four of the 109th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships underway at the National Stadium.
Simpson, who came into the final with the third best mark of 38.93, behind St Jago’s Kayla Davis (40.08m) and Cheyanne Fearon (39.15m) of Rusea’s, turned the tables with a decent 41.38m in victory.
Davis was second with 39.84m, while Kadine Brown (39.45m) of Edwin Allen was third. Fearon had to settle for fourth with a mark of 37.93m.
Meanwhile, defending champions Edwin Allen have extended their lead atop the chart on 53 points after eight events scored.
Rusea’s High is in second on 35 points with St Jago in third on 31 points. Hydel (27 points) and Excelsior (21 points) make up the top five so far.
