The Hampshire

I nterior design maven Eroleen Anderson-Powell took the Style Observer ( SO) on a tour of a one-bedroom unit at The Hampshire. The Guardian Life Limited-developed complex located at 9 Musgrave Avenue in the Golden Triangle was designed by architectural firm Michael Lake & Associates and constructed by Matalon Homes. Among the upscale apartment complex’s amenities are a rooftop recreational area with a pool and gym; 24-hour security; a standby generator; and a back-up water supply system.

At the ground breaking on June 14, 2017, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted: “Guardian Life’s decision to make this major investment is a confirmation of confidence that Jamaica is making the right decisions as it moves along its path to growth.” Almost two years later, Guardian Life is making another major investment in real estate with The Cambridge — a 176-unit apartment complex kitty-corner to The Hampshire.

With the support of Appliance Traders Limited, Active Traders Limited, and Regency Blinds, Anderson-Powell expertly staged one of the units at the eco-friendly Hampshire complex. She demonstrated how to maximise space without sacrificing taste. SO takes a peek inside.

Want to be led on a virtual tour of the apartment by Anderson-Powell? Then check out The Hamspire video on Jamaica Observer’s YouTube channel.

With furniture, art and a lighting fixture all from Active Traders Ltd Anderson-Powell created a wellappointeddining area complete with mid-century modern chairs and round Carrara marble dining table.Fun fact: this round table takes up less space than a square or rectangular version and can seat four.
A cosy reading nook was created using a pair of contemporarychrome-frame black ostrich leather chairs, a silver occasional table, complementary print (all from Active Traders Ltd), and flowers andvase from Fontana Pharmacy.
The kitchen was kitted out with stainless steelFrigidaire appliances courtesy of Appliance TradersLimited.
A breakfast bar area was easily created byplacing a pair of stainless steel stools in front ofthe kitchen island.
This is a living room you’d want to come home to! Anderson-Powell sacrificed neither taste nor style increating a living area complete with two sofas, large coffee table, side tables with modern lamps, andan area rug and art that picked up all the colours used in the design palette.
Instead of cutting the living room off with a large sofa or love seat,Anderson-Powell utilised eye-catching stools to create extra seating.
Seven peoplecan easily sitin the livingroom thatbenefitedfromAnderson-Powell’screative useof space.
Often an eyesore in a beautiful living room the big-screen television, atop a storage chest, was made tolook aesthetically pleasing and a part of the overall design narrative.
The Hampshire one-bedroom unit that the StyleObserver (SO) toured has a contemporary glass andstone tile shower.
No proper apartment is complete without ensuitelaundry. The stacked Samsung washerand dryer from Appliance Traders Limitedeasily fit in the apartment’s laundry room.
With the use of teal accents, grey earth-coloured furniture, and translucent zebra blinds from Regency Blinds, Anderson-Powell created a tranquil bedroom. Get ready for agreat night’s sleep! (Photos: Garfield Robinson)
Beauty and function are to be found in the white translucent zebrablinds from Regency Blinds.
The sliding barn door accent cabinet from Active Traders Ltd canbe used to store bed linens, throws, and extra pillows.
The semi-open concept kitchen and reading nook were tied togetherwith chrome and stainless steel furniture, matching, but notidentical, vases, and a cowhide rug for a bit of drama and warmth.
