SingJahLion roars for education
Though only 12 years old, singjay Lionel “SingJahLion” Henry has done his share of recording. In fact, he has been going to studios since age four with his father and mentor Gregory Henry.
While he is big into music, SingJahLion also knows the importance of education which he projects on Book, Book, Book, one of his latest songs, produced by Likkle Peppa Records.
Staying in school, he said, can ensure future stability more than a recording career which can end at the snap of a finger.
“A lotta people end up poor ’cause dem never tek education seriously. You never know what is going to happen, so you have to get a good education,” an articulate SingJahLion told the Jamaica Observer.
Book, Book, Book is one of five songs the Jose Marti Technical High School first-form student has released in the last year. Others in circulation are My Journey Long, God Bless Me, My Life and A Better Tomorrow which are produced by his father.
Gregory Henry, who once recorded as singer Raspeck, has produced most of his son’s songs. However, his initial recordings God A God and My Daddy Never Run Lef Me were done for Likkle Peppa and Rippa’s Productions, both based in Spanish Town.
SingJahLion has also performed on a number of shows throughout Spanish Town such as Baby Sting and the annual Independence event in August promoted by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission.
Making the rounds at live events, he notes, is educational as well.
“I meet bigger people in the business so that help me get even more knowledge,” he said.
