Elaine Thompson awarded UTech Chancellor’s medal
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympian Elaine Thompson has been presented with the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica Chancellor’s Medal Award.
UTech’s citation Deputy Chairman of Council, Michael McAnuff-Jones, presented the citation at a special ceremony for the presentation of the 2019 Chancellor’s Medal and 60th Anniversary Outstanding Alumni Awards held last Thursday at the university’s Papine campus.
According to UTech, the citation lauded Thompson for the “outstanding manner in which she has used her chances in the service of Jamaica, her community, her club and this university”.
It also acknowledged that at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 marked Thompson’s ascendency in track and field, where she won a gold medal in the 100 metres and another in the 200 metres.
Today she is ranked as the fifth fastest woman in the 200m and the fourth fastest in the 100 metres.
