Weir calls for Calabar acting principal’s head
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympian and past student of Calabar High School Warren Weir is calling for the removal of the school’s Acting Principal Calvin Rowe, who he describes as a puppet.
“Get this man out our school,” Weir said in a captioned photo of Rowe on Instagram today. “Give us a leader, not a PUPPET.”
“Unno old boys better not hit up my phone or nothing because you gonna get a raw deal,” Weir continued, warning fellow alumni not to challenge his position.
His statements come on the heels of the latest controversy involving the school – a now viral video showing boys wearing khaki uniforms and Calabar epaulettes chanting vulgar slurs about Kingston College (KC) during assembly yesterday morning.
On Saturday, KC ended Calabar’s seven-year reign at the annual ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ Championship at the National Stadium in St Andrew.
The Ministry of Education has arranged for the two schools to have a joint devotion tomorrow as part of efforts to repair the damage.
Chairman of the school board Reverend Karl Johnson has also indicated that the teachers seen in a video were not party to the unfortunate utterances.
The latest controversy follows allegations by head of the school’s Physics Department Sanjaye Shaw that two of the school’s top athletes assaulted him last December.
