THE second witness in the Uchence Wilson Gang trial yesterday testified that members of the gang shot and killed a man in St Catherine after breaking into his house to steal a car.

“Dem say when dem go inside the man wake up and get angry and dem shoot him; but dem never tell me a who kill him,” said the Crown witness, who is being referred to as Witness Two by the Jamaica Observer at the court’s instruction that all witnesses remain anonymous.

The witness, who is a former member of the gang, also testified that his former colleagues raped a woman during another robbery in Glengoffe, St Catherine.

The first witness in the trial testified that the alleged leader of the gang and another member had also raped a young woman during a robbery in Clarendon.

Witness Two has been testifying for a little over a week via video link in the Home Circuit Court and yesterday continued detailing a number of robberies in which he participated with the gang, along with other incidents that he was allegedly told about by members of the gang.

According to Witness Two, the robbery in Troja was initiated after one of the alleged gangsters, Danovan Coley, expressed an interest in obtaining a Suzuki Grand Vitara and was told by another alleged member, Keron “Tall Man” Walters, that he knew of one in Troja.

Consequently, Witness Two said Walters, Fitzroy Scott, Machel Goulbourne, Stephenson “Slim” Bennett, and Michael “Judge” Lamont all travelled to the location to commit the robbery.

The witness, who disclosed that he was not present during the robbery, said he was told that the men gained entry to the house after Slim cut the grille to a window.

He testified that the men told him that when they went inside they killed a man then took the motor vehicle away from his wife.

Witness Two said Lamont and Goulbourne drove away in the motor vehicle.

In the other robbery, which occurred in Glengoffe, the witness again said that he was not involved but that the robbery occurred after the alleged gang leader, Uchence “Terrence” Wilson, saw a man advertising a party on a social media website and hatched a plan to break into his house.

“Terrence called me and ask if I know this guy; him a have a dance and say it [was] on Facebook. Him say if me know him, ’cause him look like him have money and him want rob him,” Witness Two recounted.

However, the witness said he told Wilson he did not know the man, but knew where he lived. The ex-gangster said he subsequently took Wilson, Scott and Bennett to show them the man’s house, after which they left.

“I didn’t even know that the people dem get rob until Terrence go and him say a whole heap a dem go. Almost everybody inna the gang went on that robbery,” the witness testified.

Witness Two said the men also told him that on the night of the robbery they went to the house and remove all the bulbs on the outside of the property before cutting out one of the windows and entering the house.

When they got inside the house, the witness said they found the man showering and took him out of the bathroom, but he ran through a back door and escaped.

Witness Two said the men then found the man’s wife in a room and asked her for the money that they made from the party and she gave it to them. According to the witness, they took the money along with phones, jewellery and other items.

“Some of the guys found a girl in a room and they raped her,” the witness said he was also told.

In the meantime, the second witness, who yesterday completed his evidence-in-chief, said he made the decision to testify against the others because he was not pleased with “some of people that they robbed, and the things done to people who they robbed”.

The witness, who admitted that the gang had also robbed his close friends, said he gave the gang information on his friends but hinted that he did so out of fear.

“If dem ask me ’bout somebody and I tell dem lie, or don’t carry them, anything can happen’ cause dem ago start cuss and get ignorant. So when dem ask mi I tell dem if I know so dem can trust me certain way, and things can easy wid me,” he explained.

The defence is to begin cross-examining the Witness Two today.

Wilson and 23 of his co-accused are being tried on various charges, including breaches of the Criminal Justice Suppression of Criminal Organisations Act (Anti-Gang Legislation) and the Firearms Act.
