Police to verify name of ‘doctor’ on fraud charge
DETECTIVES investigating the woman accused of posing as a medical doctor now have to dig further to verify her real name.
When the matter was called up yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, England McCrane was listed in the court sheet. However, her attorney Althea Grant told the court that her name is Ingrid England McCrane.
The judge then told the police to verify the accused woman’s identity, given the fact that the police heard the accused telling her attorney the name that was on the file.
McCrane was charged by Area One Fraud Squad detectives with several offences including forgery, uttering forged documents, obtaining money by false pretence, and breaches of the Medical Act.
The accused appeared in the St James Parish Court last month; however, the case was transferred to Kingston. Yesterday she pleaded guilty to three counts of uttering forged documents and simple larceny after the court was told that, with intent to deceive, she had submitted a payslip among other documents, including a job letter from the United States of America Embassy.
A fingerprint order and a social inquiry report were subsequently made by Parish Judge Chester Crooks.
May 2 was subsequently set as the date for her to be brought back to court for sentencing.
