#PortalndEasternVotes: ‘We want back we parish,’ chant Comrades
KINGSTON, Jamaica — “We want back we parish,” was the cry of People’s National Party (PNP) supporters outside the Drapers All Age School as they attempted to outshout a larger group of Jamaica Labour Party supporters meters away.
With JLP candidate Ann-Marie Vaz slated to vote at a polling station at the school shortly it has become ground zero in the Fairy Hill Division that the JLP is expected to win easily.
“When me little daughter ask me ‘daddy how come she say Jamaica have 13 parish and you tell me say is 14,’ me have to say to her that me soon get back the parish,” said one very vocal Comrade.
Vaz is facing off with the PNP’s Damion Crawford for the right to represent Portland Eastern in Parliament.
So far, voting has been steady at most polling stations with occasional stand offs between the supporters but the police say there has been no major incident.
