#PortlandEasternVotes: Ann-Marie Vaz confident of victory
PORTLAND, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP’s) Ann-Marie Vaz was brimming with confidence as she entered the Drapers All Age School to cast her vote a short while ago.
“The people of east Portland have been awaiting this day. It’s a day for change and it will signal a change in the lives of every resident in this constituency,” said Vaz, who is trying to take the seat for her party, a feat it has not achieved for 30 years.
“April 4, 2019 will go down in history. I will be the first woman to be elected Member of Parliament in this constituency and I will ensure that my tenure is such that I will not be the last woman to hold this seat,” added Vaz.
She is in a tough battle with the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Damion Crawford for the right to represent the constituency, but Vaz said she is confident that when the votes are counted this evening, she will be victorious.
