#PortlandEasternVotes: Polling stations open
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Voting got underway this morning in the Portland Eastern constituency, where People’s National Party (PNP) candidate Damon Crawford is up against the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Ann-Marie Vaz.
The exercise became necessary following the murder of PNP MP Dr Lynvale Bloomfied in February.
Portland Eastern was last represented by a JLP MP in 1980 and is considered a PNP safe seat.
However, recent polls have pointed to Vaz as the favourite to win, with a 10 per cent lead over her opponent, Crawford.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica says some 36,315 electors are eligible to vote in the election.
Voting began at 7:00 am and will end at 5:00 pm.
