#PortlandEasternVotes: Voter turnout at 47%, exceeds 2016 figures
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Voter turnout for the Portland Eastern by-election has surpassed figures recorded in the constituency for the last general election.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is reporting a 47 per cent turnout at 3:00 pm, as electors continue to cast their ballots for a new member of parliament.
The 17,185 votes submitted since 7:00 am are in comparison to the 15,110 (43.93 per cent) of electors who voted in 2016.
Voters have until 5:00 pm to cast their ballots for either the People’s National Party’s Damion Crawford or the Jamaica Labour Party’s Ann-Marie Vaz.
The result of the poll should be available shortly after 8:00 pm.
