FALMOUTH, Trelawny — First-time semi-finalists Hopewell United and Falmouth United will seek to get an upper hand on defending champions Wadadah FC and Faulkland FC respectively in Sunday’s first leg of the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League at Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.

Defending champions Wadadah FC will take on Hopewell United in the first game set to start at 1:30 pm, followed by regular season winners Faulkland FC against Falmouth United at 3:30 pm.

It will be the third straight semi-final for Faulkland FC who were beaten in last season’s final by many-time champions Wadadah FC, and both will be seeking to return to the final set for early May.

The return legs of the semi-final are set for Sunday, April 28 in Montego Bay.

On form, Faulkland FC will start favourites with their only blemish this season was losing the mid-season finals to Wadadah FC. They, however, went on to top the points table with 42 points, booking their semi-final spot with a win over Falmouth United in a third- round game played at Jarrett Park, with three rounds of games still to be played.

Faulkland FC were unbeaten in the regular season, the only team with that record, scoring 35 goals and conceded six, in 16 games played.

They will face a Falmouth United team that, despite losing their only meeting, will be seeking to prove they earned they spot in the final four, in their first season in the competition.

Both clubs have significantly added to their squads in the January transfer window, and the new-comers could play a major part in the outcome.

Ewan Barton, who has scored 10 goals all season, could be the key for Faulkland FC along with Shanoy Anderson and Lodrick Haughton.

The experienced Allan Ottey will lead the Falmouth United attack along with the pair of Aiden Jokomba and Shavon McDonald.

Wadadah FC and Hopewell United have shared their two meetings, the Hanover club winning their first meeting with the champions getting revenge in the return round.

Hopewell United won their last two games to qualify for the semi-finals, but had gone winless in the previous three, while Wadadah FC won two of their last four after a big 1-3 loss to Faulkland FC in a third- round game.

While Kemiro James is the top scorer for Wadadah FC, most of his goals came in the first two rounds, but Matthew Thorpe who joined the team in January, has scored five goals since then, while Tyshan Hill and Oshane Hunter have both scored three goals.
