Lilliput Rovers advance to St James FA Sandals Major League semis
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Lilliput Rovers secured their place in the semi-final of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resort International Major League, after a 2-1 win over winless Seba FC at Spot Valley earlier this week.
The win took Lilliput Rovers to 21 points in Group One, six more than second-place Violet Kickers with one game to go in the regular season.
Violet Kickers enhanced their chances of taking the second semi-final spot from the group after a similar margin of win over Catherine Hall at the UDC Field on Wednesday.
Orlando McIntosh scored twice in the first half-hour to set up the win despite player/coach Garfield Anderson coming off the bench late in the second half to pull one back for Catherine Hall.
McIntosh fired Violet Kickers into the lead in the ninth minute and added a second in the 28th minute.
Both teams missed a handful of scoring chances in the second half, especially Violet Kickers who should have scored from three wide open chances.
Anderson, who had scored in their previous game, pulled one back in the 83rd minute, slamming home from close range after the Violet Kickers defence failed to clear a corner.
Also this week, Marl Road scored their first win of the season, outscoring a hapless Bogue FC 3-2 as Marcell White scored twice.
Despite ending their eight-game winless skid, Marl Road are still at the foot of the table in Group Two on eight points, same as Montego Bay Boys Club and Bogue FC, but with an inferior goal difference.
White gave Marl Road the lead in the second minute but Tavaine Kerr equalised for Bogue in the 36th minute before Christopher Johnson gave them the lead in the 54th minute.
Bogue FC have not been able to hold a lead all season and allowed Marl Road back into the game when Romaine Jackson brought Marl Road level at 2-2 in the 75th minute, before White got the winner in the 80th minute.
