Revellers flock I Love Soca
THOUSANDS of soca lovers turned out for one of the season’s staple events, I Love Soca, held at Sabina Park in Kingston on Wednesday night.
Dressed to impressed, partygoers rolled out with their packed coolers for a great evening. The event was nothing short of high energy and great entertainment.
“I couldn’t miss it; it’s carnival Wednesday. I’m in a great mood; the vibes deh ya — rum deh ya. All kind of tings deh ya, the setup is amazing. I’ve come to always expect a good time at I Love Soca and that is definitely what I’m having tonight,” patron Colin Lamont told the Jamaica Observer.
Partygoers ‘mashed it up’ to soca hits that bounced off the walls of the cricket park. Trinidadian selector Aaron Fingal spun tunes that maximised the energy at the venue. DJ Ritchie RAS, Lurbz, and Aswaad, Marc Chin and Cyclone also brought the vibes. Rigga Suave, DJ Dre, Tony Cross and Lord Hype could not be left out, as they also kept soca lovers partying till minutes after 3:00 am.
The massive stage was not left bare all night, but was graced by the presence of soca giant Machel Mantano. Patrons threw their hands up in excitement, followed the dance instructions, and ‘got on bad’ as he went through his set.
Those who wanted a taste of the dancehall vibe were catered to, as Ding Dong and the Ravers as well as Teejay provided the dancehall flavour with their exciting moves and catchy lyrics.
Patrons were left satisfied with their experience at I Love Soca.
“This was my first time at the event. I’ve never really been interested in soca or the carnival energy but I don’t know what it was tonight — I’m sweating, I’m a little intoxicated, my waistline hurting. It’s a great vibe, the whole place mash up!” exclaimed patron Ashley Lewis.
