NORTHAMPTON, England (CMC) — Injury kept West Indies captain Jason Holder out of Northamptonshire’s One-Day Cup clash with Worcestershire, which they lost by 20 runs at home here Friday.

The 27-year-old Holder struck 72 last Wednesday against Lancashire — his third half-century in four outings in the competition — but needed treatment to his left leg early in his innings. He did not take the field when Northants bowled.

On Friday he was replaced by seamer Ian Holland, who Northants signed this week on loan from Hampshire.

“With three seamers down and an injury to Jason Holder, we felt the need to add to our squad for the rest of our 50-over campaign,” head Coach David Ripley said. The setback for Holder comes a week before he is scheduled to lead West Indies in a Tri-Nations Series against hosts Ireland and Bangladesh, from May 5-17.

All-rounder Holder is also set to skipper the Windies at the ICC World Cup, which bowls off in England on May 30.

His form for Northants has been outstanding, especially with the bat, so far scoring 248 runs at an average of 82.
