Holland United atop Group 3 in Trelawny FA Major League
DAVIS PEN, Trelawny — Holland United took over the lead in Group Three of the Trelawny Football Association Major League on Saturday after a come-from-behind 5-2 hammering of former champions Salt Marsh United in their return-round game played at Davis Pen.
Twenty goals were scored in the four games that were played on Saturday as the race for places in the second round heats up.
It was Holland United’s second win over Salt Marsh United this season after winning the first game 2-0 as they improved to 16 points, two more than Coopers Pen, both from seven games with Kinloss FC a point back in third place.
On Saturday, Salt Marsh United led 2-1 at half-time after Nickhoy Edwards gave them the lead in the eighth minute when he converted from the penalty spot, Roshawn Vernon equalised in the 15th minute for Holland United but Kevin Laing restored the home team’s lead two minutes later.
It was all Holland United in the second half as they scored four times, including an own goal in a 15-minute span to run away with the win.
Austin Dixon drew Holland United level in the 61st minute and Shannon Blake gave them the lead for the first time in the game a minute later.
An own goal in the 66th minute made the scores 4-2 and Jahmar Newman added a fifth goal in the 75th minute.
Kinloss FC also came from behind to edge Granville FC 2-1 at Kinloss Community Centre.
Karlton Drakes scored his first goal of the season to give Granville FC the lead after 12 minutes, but second half goals from Warren Dixon in the 47th minute and Rojae Cole in the 89th carried them to their fourth win of the season.
Jackson Town took over second place in Group One after a 6-1 thumping of Daniel Town as Akeem McGrath scored a brace, one goal in either half.
Jackson Town are on 11 points from seven games, one point ahead of Duncans United, who have a game in hand, both behind leaders Wait-A-Bit PYC.
Jackson Town led 4-1 at half-time with goals from Amel Reid, McGrath, Hugh-George Watson and Lionel Stewart, while Andre Hamilton scored for Daniel Town.
Gussea Young scored early in the second half for Jackson Town and McGrath completed his brace in the 65th minute.
Spicy Hill SC avenged a first-round 2-1 loss to Rio Bueno FC with two early goals from Keneil Rhoden, while Garfield Stewart kept Rio Bueno in the game with a 59th-minute goal in their Group Two game.
