Adding a new element to its partnership with the Racers Grand Prix, Restaurants of Jamaica, through its KFC and Pizza Hut brands, is promising much excitement off the track to further enhance the fan experience at this year’s fourth edition of the meet.

With the now Racers Adidas Grand Prix being the most outstanding one-day meet in the region, attracting multiple world-class athletes each year, Restaurants of Jamaica Brand Manager Andrei Roper believes the meet complements their brands and wider collaboration with Racers Track Club.

“We see the Racers Grand Prix as a shining example of what Jamaica has to offer in terms of world-class sporting entertainment and sports tourism. We are committed to working with the Racers Track Club in enhancing what is already an excellent sporting product, and bringing first class track and field to our shores year after year,” Roper told the Jamaica Observer.

“But more than just our sponsorship of the Grand Prix event is our alignment with the Racers Track Club in their continued development of young track and field talent.

“This is why, in addition to the Grand Prix event, we also partner with them for their annual summer track and field camp, where so many young track and field athletes are able to benefit. We are committed to working with Racers Track Club to unearth more young talent and produce the next batch of world-beaters in the sport,” he added.

A total of 130 athletes from 15 countries have been confirmed to be a part of the three-hour showpiece, scheduled for June 8, with 19 events to be contested inside the National Stadium.

Jamaica’s own Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Fedrick Dacres, Daniel Thomas-Dodd, Asafa Powell, Ronald Levy, Akeem Broomfield and Javon Francis are some of those down to compete, alongside Bahamian Olympic gold medallist Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Michelle-Lee Ahye, and Olympic champion Kirani James.

Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes and Miguel Francis, and Americans Phyllis Francis, Trayvon Bromell, Mason Finley, and Fred Kerley are also in the line-up.

“We have a scintillating line-up of athletes both on the track and in the field. It really is an impressive list, and we really expect an entertaining night of track and field action.

“So I am expecting a strong turnout. The line-up of athletes is an excellent one, and we know that the action on the track and in the field will be at a high level. And, as is the case every year, the musical entertainment package will be something the fans will really enjoy while at the venue,” Roper reasoned.

And while the athletes on track and in the field are expected to give patrons a treat, Roper and his team have some treats of their own lined up for what should be another spectacular night.

“We will be giving away free tickets to the event on our social media pages, and we will be surprising fans in attendance at the stadium — who are showing their true fan spirit — with great spot prizes courtesy of KFC and Pizza Hut.

“So the patrons will have a lot to look forward to, just as I am looking forward to a really action-packed night of events, with a few surprises and upsets in store,” Roper noted.

“But personally, I am really looking forward to seeing Shaunae Miller-Uibo going up against Phyllis Francis in the Women’s 400m. The reigning Olympic champion versus the reigning World Champion — you can’t ask for anything better than that. I expect to see some fireworks in that event, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a meet record,” he ended.
