Dia de español en la primaria Ocho Rios
In order to adequately meet the requirements of the new curriculum for primary schools in Jamaica, Ocho Rios Primary started their first Spanish Day, where students showcased some of the lessons they learnt during the school year, and the Jamaica Observer North & East was present to witness the excitement of the occasion.
School Principal, Suzette Barnes-Wilson said that the school contracted a teacher who works assiduously to guarantee that they are keeping in line with the ministry of education’s guidelines.
Evon Hewitt, sports director at Irie FM, who was also present, shared that he believes that the Spanish Day initiative was tremendous and that having Spanish taught in primary schools is brilliant, and described it as “beginning at the right level”.
Kishawn Stennett, a grade five student who participated in the day’s activities, and represented Spain, said that he thinks Spanish is important and if ever he gets the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country, he will now be able to speak and understand.
