Manchioneal clip Port Antonio Academy 1-0 to capture Portland Dr Lynvale Bloomfield U17 title
Port Antonio, Portland — Manchioneal won the Portland Dr Lynvale Bloomfield Under-17 title after they clipped Port Antonio Academy 1-0 at Carder Park on a Dante Wallace penalty in the 56th minute.
Port Antonio Academy started out attacking through Kamar Campbell, Jerome McLeary and Jevar Morgan but found Jevaughn Thompson and Roy Thomas hard to penetrate, as Manchioneal countered through Marlon Pennicooke, Dante Wallace, Javion Doyley and Jevaughn Thompson. However, Ajani Clarke, Zaheer Parkes and O’Neil Pryce were compact and hard to break down.
The second half saw Manchioneal’s Shavis Hamilton, Pennicooke and Oshane Miller going in search of the opening goal, but Port Antonio Academy absorbed the pressure well. The deadlock was broken when Pennicooke broke through the midfield into the penalty area and was taken down by Ajani Clarke and Referee Shawn Horne did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot.
The resultant kick by Wallace had Port Antonio Academy custodian Giovanne Fuller going in the wrong direction as the ball lodged in the left of his goal.
Port Antonio Academy tried to get back in the game through an O’Neil Pryce and Kamar Campbell combination but even with an open goal Pryce failed to make contact. Shortly after, Pryce passed to Campbell who found the back of the net but was ruled offside, thus denying them any chance of a revival.
President of the Portland Football Association Raymond Grant presented the trophy to captain Marlon Pennicooke.
Losing Assistant Coach Leahkin Hall was disappointed. “We stock to our game plan but we did not get the desired result, and we commend Manchioneal.”
Winning Assistant Coach Hopeton Henry was pleased. “We came out and played to our plan and sapped up the pressure, and won the game. It was all planned from first and we did it — and we are thankful.”
