Moving ‘Vigorously’ to the top Grade
Four-year-old bay gelding Another Vigorous was no match for the still unbeaten American-bred Stranger Danger on last, losing out by 6 ¼ lengths going 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) in an Open Allowance event on May 15, 2019.
Another Vigorous returned 10 days later on Saturday (May 25) and reasserted his stocks as a thoroughbred on the move to the top when he took apart a decent field of runners at the same Open Allowance level going 5 furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Another Vigorous’ 1½ length win in a fast time of 58.4 seconds got tongues wagging about his improvement and developmental status.
This progress was, as a matter of course, noticed by his trainer Rowan Mathie, who gave the opinion that Another Vigorous is capable of doing more.
“He is a four-year-old now and he is improving and so I expect good things from him later on down the year.
“He ( Another Vigorous) got a run under his belt the other day, so he was freshened and much better for this race and he delivered. The plan going forward now is to start preparations for Grade One,” Mathie told the Supreme Racing Guide.
Another Vigorous was hustled up by apprentice Christopher Mamdeen to take the lead and he held it over Exhilarate (Robert Halledeen), Patriarch (Raddesh Roman) and Hilly’s Halo (Anthony Thomas), who recovered somewhat after a bad start, navigating the half-mile (800m) turn.
After getting rid of Exhilarate, Another Vigorous was then challenged by Hilly’s Halo in deep stretch but the Legal Process offspring, showing his class and talent, sprinted off to score his victory.
Hilly’s Halo ran well for second place with Patriarch getting third place.
Evidence of Another Vigorous‘ growth was further noted in the recorded splits of 22.3 and 45.2.
