Twenty provisionally entered at first go for Jamaica Derby
The promoting company Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited has issued the first set of provisional entries for the 2019 edition of the Blue Riband, Jamaica Derby to be run at Caymanas Park on Saturday, June 29.
The high-powered stables of trainer Anthony Nunes leads the Derby chase with seven runners.
These seven runners are led by 2000 Guineas and Governor’s Cup winner Supreme Soul who is the only horse left with the possibility of achieving Triple Crown glory. The Triple Crown set of races is made up of the 1000 or 2000 Guineas, the Jamaica Derby and the Jamaica St Leger.
The other Nunes entries are I Am Di One (1,000 Guineas winner), Earn Your Stripes, Tricky One, Envisaged, Princess Ava and Big Bang.
New entries to the Classic scene include Ali, Code of Honor and Berry Boy among others.
Apart from Nunes, only trainer Gary Subratie has more than one entry for the big run. The Subratie’s entries are Sentient – second in the Governor’s Cup – Ali who recently released his maiden tag and Casual Drink.
