TOUGH OVERNIGHT — EL PROFESOR GIVEN THE NOD
THE Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup is the lone trophy race on tomorrow’s 10-race programme but for sure, the attention of racegoers is going to surround the top-rated Restricted Overnight Allowance going over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
Twelve capable runners are down to take part with more than half the field in with a chance of taking home the major share of the $1-million purse on offer.
The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning in post-position order.
MY ELLE BELLE: (4-y-o ch. f – Horse Greeley – Fast Actress) – Has been very disappointing in recent times. My Elle Belle came into many of her races with winning chances but has failed on numerous occasions. Given the nature of this race, My Elle Belle should turnaround her form and run better but she cannot be tardy at the start.
ANNA LISA: (4-y-o b. f – Adore The Gold – Anna) – Was a good winner in a Restricted Allowance event over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on May 4, beating My Super Girl and Miss Formality in the process. Anna Lisa followed up with two fifth-place finishes and although in a tight place here, she could get into the mix if properly ridden throughout ,yet Anna Lisa is still learning the drill in Overnight.
HEY CHAMP: (6-y-o ch. g – Seeking The Glory – Pretty Hilly) – Running some good races at the Overnight Allowance level but was nowhere to be found in the recent Ahwhofah Sprint over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on June 1. Hey Champ gets an extended trip tomorrow and should run an improved race without actually winning. She is a fighter though and can surprise.
BIBLICAL LEGEND: (5-y-o b. f – Storm Craft – Biblical Fury) – Needs much more time to decipher this class.
YAYA’S DREAM: (4-y-o b. f – Adore The Gold – Just A Flutter) – Didn’t figure in the recent Ahwhofah Sprint and although running some fair races prior, Yaya’s Dream is going to find the leading contenders very difficult to handle.
UNCLE VINNIE: (5-y-o dkb. h – Bridled Quest – Kathythetraina) – After finishing in third place by 2 ½ lengths behind I Am Di One and Dontae over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on June 8, Uncle Vinnie returned one week later and ran another good race when finishing in fourth place in the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy over 6 furlongs. He will enjoy this longer trip and should run another good race here with winning a strong option.
SUBBIE: (5-y-o b. h – Deputy Glitters – Anna) – Struggling somewhat in his races and is not expected to be a threat.
WARTIME: (6-y-o ch. m – War Marshall – Time Crisis) – Easily the most consistent horse in the line-up. Wartime has been running some very good races of late without getting into the winners’ enclosure. Wartime finished a good third behind Honey Ryda and El Profesor on May 18 over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) and is not going to find this distance taxing.
STORM VALLEY: (5-y-o dkb. h – Storm Craft – That Girl) – Was a winner on last but that was in claiming and against these will be lost.
EL PROFESOR: (4-y-o b. g – Casual Trick – The Principal) – Came to life on last when finishing like a train against the inside rails in deep stretch only to be outdone by Honey Ryda over 5 1/2 furlongs on May 18. El Profesor drew the number one post and had difficulties from early in the race but now going longer and a more favourable draw, El Profesor stocks have risen.
MADAM SECRETARY: (4-y-o ch. f – Film Director – Lisa’s Vibes) – Has the capability to figure here but has been running disappointingly since coming to this level. Madam Secretary is going to need more time.
CAPTUREMYSHIP: (5-y-o b. h – Adore The Gold – Mayken Joy) – Scratched out of his seasonal debut race on May 18 but Capturemyship returned on June 1 in the Ahwhofah Sprint and ran a blinder to finish in third place behind Zephyr and Lottery Ticket over 6 furlongs. The trip is not a bother and Capturemyship could set off in front and prove a difficult contender.
