RFB to sizzle tomorrow
EVEN though the carnival season ended in April, Bacchanal Jamaica is looking to rekindle the vibe with a second serving of Rum For Breakfast (RFB): Summer Edition.
“The customers asked for it and it is actually bigger than the one held during carnival season because a lot more people are home from school, so we are able to pull a bigger crowd. This is something that patrons are looking forward to,” Michael Ammar Jr, a director of Bacchanal Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer.
“We’re going to have a lot of excitement for patrons. We will also have a frozen bar for those who may be afraid of the heat. There will be wet rags, snow cones, ceiling fans, kisko…everything,” he continued.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at Hope Zoo in St Andrew. Music will be provided by DJs Marlon Musique, Tyler, Nicco, Richie Ras, and Duchess.
The director said there will be a musical twist to this staging of RFB.
“It won’t be strictly soca. Bacchanal is a soca product, but we have a mixture of disc jocks: DJ Nicco is very versatile as well as Richie Ras; but we have Duchess from Trinidad who hasn’t been here in maybe two years. What we have tried to do for each staging of Rum For Breakfast is to change disc jocks,” said Ammar Jr.
The director said ticket sales for Saturday’s event is encouraging.
“The early birds sold off very quickly and I suspect that the pre-sold tickets will be sold off by Friday afternoon. We don’t usually have tickets sold at the gate (because there’s a limit to the capacity within the venue) but if we have a few left over then those will be available on the day,” he said.
With two decades under its belt, Bacchanal Jamaica is the longest surviving carnival entity. However, in recent times, it has faced serious competition from new players in the carnival space. He gave Bacchanal Jamaica thumbs up for the recently concluded season.
“It was extremely, surprisingly successful. With all the competition, we are now the underdogs in this road march thing, so we decided to go for a medium-sized band instead of a large one and people praised the idea of having a more intimate setting. What we have done at Bacchanal is to opt for a premium experience to cater to our consumers. If you follow Bacchanal on any social media, then you’d see that, for the most part, there were positive comments; everybody got their costumes, they enjoyed the premium events…at road march we don’t sit on the ground to have lunch, we sit at tables,” he said.
