KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) Chairman Fitz Jackson a short while ago called on Comrades to lend financial support to the 81-year-old Opposition party.

Jackson made the call at the PNP’s Annual Conference at the National Arena in Kingston.

“You always know for the PNP to move forward we are going to need money,” Jackson said as he urged the “foundation” of the party to pledge support.

PNP Treasurer Lisa Hanna, who supported Jackson’s call, shared that the party, over the last financial year, was able to fund itself.

Despite this, Hanna called on the business community to pledge support, noting that the PNP has been working over the past year and is ready whenever the next general election is called.

The party is seeking to raise US$1 million.

As a result, several Comrades have been equipped with metal pans to collect money from those on the floor.

Westmoreland Central Member of Parliament Dwayne Vaz is leading that segment of the conference.

“Comrades, the party must be in good financial standing to survive. If we are going to work we need money and if we are going to win we need money,” Vaz said, drawing on the party’s theme for it’s annual conference — WOW (Work Organise Win).

The first pledge of $100,000 came form Hanna. The party has so far raised over $1 million.
