Thomas Cook closure to impact Jamaica
Worldwide tour operator, Thomas Cook, with offices in countries worldwide to include Jamaica has seen it’s operations grind to a halt after the company failed in a bid to raise funds to keep itself afloat on Sunday night.
The tour company which is based in the United Kingdom is a key partner to Jamaica’s tourism industry. It has reportedly brought over 14,000 visitors to Jamaica annually. It has completely ceased operations after bailouts failed to materialize for the company that has been in existence for over 175 years.
For Jamaica, the loss of 14,000 visitors per annum is a big blow and tourism interests will have to now look at how to plug that gap even though the country has been seeing record tourists arrivals in the last couple of years.
Following the news that the tour company has gone under, Virgin Atlantic has been ferrying home passengers and staff back to the UK out of Jamaica.
