#Doha2019: Janeek Brown gives Jamaica four spots in women’s 100m hurdles semis
Janeek Brown
ensured that Jamaica will have all four women in the 100 metres hurdles in the
semi-finals as she finished second in Heat Five of the preliminary round on
Saturday at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Brown was
quickest out of the blocks but was caught by Tobi Amusan of Nigeria after 40
metres. The Nigerian ran through smoothly to win in a personal best of 12.48
seconds.
Brown did
12.61 seconds with Nadine Visser of the Netherland finishing third in 12.75 as
Karolina Koleczek of Poland claimed the fourth and final automatic qualifying
spot from the heat for the semi-finals in 12.78.
Early, Megan
Tapper, Yanique Thompson and favourite for the title Danielle Williams also
advanced to the semis.
Jamaica have
four women in the field, instead of the usual three, as Williams got an
automatic spot to the World Championships by winning this year’s Diamond League
overall title.
