Leaders Molynes welcome Mount Pleasant seeking sixth straight win
Surprise front-runners Molynes United Football Club (FC) will put their perfect start to the season on the line when they welcome Mount Pleasant Football Academy to Waterhouse Stadium in Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football action today.
Kick-off time is 5:00 pm.
The St Andrew-situated Molynes, first-timers in the RSPL, have taken to life in the nation’s top flight like a duck to water.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Lijyasu Simms, they have 15 points after winning their five opening games of the campaign, downing some prominent names in local club football circles along the way.
Mount Pleasant, based in St Ann, have endured a rocky start to their second season in the RSPL. In the midst has been ousting of popular local coaching figure Donovan Duckie and the return of Paul “Tegat” Davis to the head coach position.
While last season they matched strides with the top guns in the RSPL en route to a semi-final finish, this time around they have only six points to show from five games. But the inconsistent form of others means that Mount Pleasant hang onto fifth place.
In an encounter to begin at 3:30 pm today, Tivoli Gardens FC welcome Portmore United to Edward Seaga Sports Complex in Kingston.
Both teams have been far from convincing so far this season.
Portmore, the reigning two-time champions, lost their opening three games before copping back-to-back wins and moving to eighth place with six points from five outings.
Tivoli Gardens, the former premier league winners, are last in the 12-team standing with three points from four games.
Also at 3:30 pm, The University of the West Indies (UWI) FC take on visitors Waterhouse FC at Mona campus in St Andrew. Former champions Waterhouse are second with 10 points from four games, while UWI are ninth with five points from as many games.
In another 3:30 pm start, the Clarendon derby is set to take centre stage at Effortville Community Centre with Humble Lion FC hosting promoted Vere United.
Humble Lion are sixth with six points, while Vere are 11th with four points.
At Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, visitors Cavalier FC are to match wits with Arnett Gardens FC in a scheduled 7:00 pm start. Cavalier are third with seven points, while Arnett are 10th with five points.
In tomorrow’s RSPL Monday Night clash, fourth-placed Harbour View FC (seven points) entertain seventh-placed Dunbeholden FC (six points) at Harbour View Stadium. The slated start is 8:30 pm.
