MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Manchester High and B B Coke High are through to the second round of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/WATA daCosta Cup football competition, after wins over May Day High and de Carteret College, respectively, in their Zone F return-round games yesterday.

Manchester High rebounded from their shock defeat to B B Coke on Saturday to hammer May Day High 6-0 and improved to 22 points, while B B Coke edged De Carteret College 1-0 in their game and are on 21 points.

The qualification of the two schools yesterday makes it 17 schools that have taken their places in the second round, as they joined Anchovy High from Zone A, Frome Technical and Rusea’s High from Zone B, Manning’s School from Zone D, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) from Zone E, Clarendon College and Lennon High from Zone H, Annotto Bay High from Zone J, McGrath High and Charlemont High from Zone K, Port Antonio High and Happy Grove from Zone L, Garvey Maceo High and Denbigh High from Zone M, and Seaforth High from Zone O.

Another six schools, including 12-time champions and last season’s beaten finalists Cornwall College could join the second round qualifiers after today’s round of matches.

Cornwall College in Zone A, William Knibb Memorial in Zone C, Petersfield High in Zone D, Brown’s Town, and Oracabessa could advance form Zone I with wins and help elsewhere, while Paul Bogle in Zone O, could also advance.

Frome Technical need only a point from their game against Hopewell High to win Zone B ahead of Rusea’s High.

Yesterday, Dane Golding scored a hat-trick for Manchester High as they roared back from their first loss in Zone F in 10 years to secure their place in the next round.

Jason Dyer scored his 13th goal of the first round as B B Coke got their seventh win of the season to make progress.

Mile Gully were 4-1 winners over Belair High to stay in third place and will hope for a best third-place spot in the next round.

Today, Cornwall College could join Anchovy High as the automatic qualifiers from Zone A if they can beat Maldon High in a rescheduled game that was originally set for Saturday.

A win would see Cornwall College retake the lead in the zone on goal difference and set up a winner-takes-all clash for zone honours on Saturday.

William Knibb lead Zone C, two points ahead of Spot Valley High but with two games in hand and could be the first qualifier today if they can beat Cedric Titus in Clarks Town.

Cedric Titus are on a high with back-to-back wins and a 5-0 thrashing of Spot Valley on Saturday.

Petersfield suffered their first loss on Saturday, giving up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Manning’s School, snapping a four-game winning run and will face an ambitious Belmont Academy team today.

Belmont are just two points behind Petersfield and a win today would push them into second place behind qualifiers Manning’s School.

Brown’s Town and Oracabessa High, tied on 16 points in Zone I, could grab both spots today with wins and if Ocho Rios High fail to beat Iona High.

Ocho Rios are three points behind and must beat Iona a second time this year, if they are to keep their hopes of getting one of the two automatic spots alive.

Paul Bogle High were beaten 3-0 by Zone O winners Seaforth High on Monday but will hope to rebound with a win over Yallahs High.

Vere Technical and Old Harbour are in second place locked on nine points after drawing 0-0 on Monday, one point behind leaders Zone N Central High, and wins today would result in them retaking the lead.

Vere Technical will host Kemps Hill in one game, while Old Harbour High will play away to Foga Road.
