PNP wants Political Ombudsman to reprimand Nesta Morgan
KINGSTON, Jamaica — General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP) Julian Robinson yesterday called for the “urgent intervention” of the Political Ombudsman, Donna Parchment Brown, following what he termed offensive tweets made by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Senator Nesta Morgan.
“The People’s National Party is deeply disturbed by a tweet made by Senator Robert Nesta Morgan on the 7th October 2019 in reference to Senator Lambert Brown wherein it was stated that, ‘if you sit with Lammy you will rise with fleas’,” Robinson wrote in a letter to Parchment Brown.
According to Robinson, the inference from the comment is that he is referring to Senator Brown as a dog.
“We find these utterances highly unacceptable and unbecoming of a member of the Upper House and a Parliamentary Secretary in the Government. These remarks are inflammatory, inexcusable and have the potential to give rise to undesirable political tension. What is worse is that subsequent to his first tweet, he posted two other tweets seeking to justify the first one,” Robinson said.
“We, therefore, seek your urgent intervention in safeguarding the tenets of political propriety, respect and peaceful political co-existence between members of our respective parties. Your prompt action on this matter is anticipated.”
However, Morgan took to twitter once more to address the issue and withdraw the tweet.
“Yesterday I made a tweet using a variation of a popular Jamaican proverb. It has come to my attention that a colleague has construed the tweet in a manner that I did not intend,” Morgan said in the social media post.
“With that reality, I unequivocally withdraw the tweet and regret any negative supposition that may have ensued,” he added.
