Eight corporate entities will showcase their relay skills in the second annual Pink Dash exercise at Emancipation Park in Kingston tomorrow at noon.

The teams of four from Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI), LASCO, Toyota Jamaica, National Commercial Bank, CIBC First Caribbean, Salada Foods, and Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority are proposing a fun-filled atmosphere while raising awareness about breast cancer ahead of the 2019 ICWI/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run 5K scheduled for Sunday, October 27.

October, internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a period within which the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) aims to educate people about the importance of early screening to detect the disease.

Jamaica Reach to Recovery (JRR), an affiliated organisation of the JCS, provides support and funding, where possible, to diagnosed individuals who are unable to afford treatment.

Chairperson of JRR Carolind Graham considers corporate participation a crucial aspect of building awareness amongst Jamaicans.

“Each company that has signed up for this [Pink Dash] is showing every person affected by breast cancer that they care about their fight against the disease and that they stand with them. We are heartened by the united front that corporate Jamaica has continued to show in their support of our goals of raising funds and awareness about breast cancer,” she shared.

Graham also encouraged persons in the corporate area to attend the event.

“We welcome your [public] presence at this exciting event. So, wear pink and come cheer on your respective teams,” she added.

Registration is now open for the ICWI/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run for which a 2019 target of $7 million has been set to lend further assistance to persons battling the disease which is now the leading cancer among Jamaican women. Completed forms are accepted online via www.runningeventsja.com/icwi-pink-run.html, as well as Toyota Jamaica on Old Hope Road and ICWI branches islandwide. Entry per person is $1,500, $1,200 each for groups of 50 or more. The deadline for registration is Friday, October 18, 2019.

Jamaica Reach to Recovery is the support arm of the Jamaica Cancer Society that provides emotional, psychological and financial support to persons diagnosed with breast cancer. The organisation consists of volunteers, all of whom are breast cancer survivors, whose roles include providing information and counselling to breast cancer survivors and, by extension, their families and friends.
