Jamaican judge Mangatal leaving post in the Cayman Islands
Jamaican judge Justice Ingrid Mangatal, who was convicted in the Cayman Islands for drunk driving, is leaving her post as a Grand Court judge in the Cayman Islands.
The Judicial and Legal Services Commission in the Cayman Islands made the announcement this month that Mangatal, 54, is demitting office. The Commission did not give a reason for Mangatal’s leaving.
Mangatal left her post as a Supreme Court judge in Jamaica in 2014 to take up her appointment in January 2015 as a Grand Court judge in the Cayman Islands.
Mangatal was arrested in the Cayman Islands in September 2017 for driving under the influence (DUI) following a single-vehicle crash. She pleaded guilty when she appeared in the Summary Court in the Cayman Islands on March 15, 2018.
She was fined for DUI and careless driving and banned from driving for 12 months. Mangatal continued on the bench following her conviction.
