China hands over Confucius Institute building at UWI
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government of The People’s Republic of China will, on Monday, October 14, hand over the Confucius Institute in Jamaica building, located on the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, to the Government of Jamaica.
According to the National Education Trust (NET), the building was constructed through funding provided by the Government of The People’s Republic of China.
NET noted that the building was executed under a cooperation agreement between the governments of The People’s Republic of China and Jamaica which was signed in 2016 for the China-aided Project for Building for the Confucius Institute.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth & Information Alando Terrelonge; Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern Fayval Williams; His Excellency Tian Qi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Jamaica; and Professor Ian Boxill, Deputy Principal of UWI are expected to take part in the ceremony.
