Health ministry commissions 3 trucks to help fight mosquitos
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Ministry of Health and Wellness has commissioned three trucks, equipped with foggers, to support mosquito eradication efforts in the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) region, which includes St Ann, Portland and St Mary.
Minister of Health, Chris Tufton made the disclosure on Twitter this morning.
Earlier this week, Tufton, in response to questions regarding vector control methods being used to combat dengue, said resources is not the main problem hampering efforts to control the current outbreak, which is region-wide.
He said the issue is being influenced by the weather patterns.
“The reality is that, as a region, we are faced with a particular calamity based on the environmental conditions,” he told the House of Representatives earlier this week.
The minister confirmed that in 2018, 17 people died from the mosquito-borne disease and, so far in 2019, the figure has reached 27 deaths.
