#SpeakUpSpeakOut campaign promises to tackle mental health issues
The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in recognition of World Mental Health Day (October 10), launched its ‘Speak Up, Speak Now’ campaign.

According to Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, the campaign, which was launched at the Bellevue Hospital in Kingston, seeks to encourage Jamaicans to seek help for mental illnesses, as well as reduce the stigma in the public domain.
In addition to launching the campaign, a fleet of 14 buses and a 24-hour helpline were also unveilled as the ministry gets serious about tackling mental health illnesses across Jamaica.
“Every single Jamaican needs to come to terms with the reality of mental illness. We need to reconcile in our minds that reality with the traditional perceptions we have around mental illness,” Dr. Tufton said.
