JFF make a decision about Reggae Girlz head coach October 26
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is to make a decision on October 26 regarding the Reggae Girlz head coach, Hue Menzies.
It is understood that the JFF will have a board meeting on that date,
during which members of the executive will decide Menzies’ fate.
The board meeting will discuss a variety of ongoing issues that involved
JFF’s partners, players and other stakeholders.
The Reggae Girlz, since their qualification for the FIFA Women’s World
Cup last year, have been dogged by issues, including players striking over not
being paid, coaches voicing concerns about not being paid and Cedella Marley,
the Girlz’ ambassador, complaining about being unfairly treated.
Menzies coached the team in their qualification stages and again at the
Women’s World Cup in France in July and practice matches afterwards.
He was, however, absent during the Girlz recent first-round Olympic qualifiers against Cuba, Barbados, St Lucia and United States Virgin Islands, which were all played at the National Stadium.
Reports have indicated that he was unhappy about not being paid. It is
understood that while the JFF has since paid Menzies, the body continued with
the coaching staff that guided the team in the first match and will now decide
on the next move on October 26.
