Four arrested as cops seize three firearms across St Andrew
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of three firearms and several rounds of ammunition across St Andrew on Sunday, on separate occasions.
In the first seizure, four people, including a woman, were arrested following the discovery of a handgun and several rounds of ammunition on King Weston Road, Lawrence Tavern in the parish.
According to the police, about 6:45 am, the four people were travelling in a motorcar that was stopped at a joint police/military checkpoint along the roadway.
The vehicle and its occupants were searched and a Smith and Wesson pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven cartridges was found in a bag.
The occupants, whose identities are being withheld, were taken into custody and the vehicle seized. They remain in custody as police continue their investigation.
Then, about 1:00 pm, police on operation on Premix Road, Kingston 6 reportedly found a Calico MP51 9mm rifle with a magazine containing 24 rounds of ammunition at a premises they searched.
The third weapon was seized about 1:15 pm, when the Red Hills police carried out an operation, at an unfinished house in Belvedere in the parish.
The lawmen said a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition were found at the property.
No arrests have been made.
The police said investigations continue.
