Jamaica Social Investment Fund to build $217 state-of-the-art fire station for St Mary
St
Mary will get a new $217 state-of-the-art fire station fire station within the
next year, under the Jamaica Social Investment Fund’s (JSIF) Disaster
Vulnerability Reduction Programme.
The
facility is expected to be able to host regional conferences and training
sessions. Contract signing takes place on Tuesday at Jamaica House.
According
to JSIF, the facility will accommodate 80 fire fighters to serve the parish’s
114,000 residents.

Meanwhile,
JSIF is also expected to present two garbage compactors to the National Solid
Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) on Tuesday.
This
will be through the agency’s Integrated Community Development Project that the
trucks were purchased through at a cost of $50.6m and which serves, communities
in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, St Ann, St James and
Westmoreland.
Both
projects are being funded through a loan from the World Bank.
