Motorcyclists under close police watch in Manchester
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Police here are concerned about the increasing murders, robberies and accidents resulting from the use of motorcycles.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in charge of operations in Manchester Lloyd Darby recently told the monthly sitting of the Manchester Municipal Corporation that motorcycles are increasingly being used by criminals.
“The use of motorcycles in the committal of crimes is causing a lot of concern for the police in the parish, and that includes crimes such as robberies and murders. We also realise that there has been an increase in the number of motorcycles being stolen in the parish — motorcycles have become prime targets for robberies and that is of concern to the police,” said DSP Darby.
Darby added that the police have increased their seizure of motorcycles.
“For the past two weeks (prior to the meeting), the Manchester police have embarked on a drive to seize motorcycles and prosecute for road traffic offences. We have had 54 seizures across the division over the past two weeks,” informed Darby.
He also pointed to the road fatalities in the parish since the start of the year, up to October 10.
“We have had 23 fatalities resulting from accidents, and from this figure nine motorcyclists have been killed and one pillion passenger,” said Darby.
