Reduction expected in turn-around time to access electricity
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Fayval Williams told the leadership team of the ministry and public bodies under the ministry, that the Government wants the time taken to access electricity reduced from 90 days to 18 days.
Williams was speaking at the second quarterly review of the ministry and its public bodies held at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge in Kingston, earlier today.
According to a statement from the ministry, Williams said the establishment of the Government Electrical Regulator (GER) will result in an increase in the number of available registered inspectors.
She also noted that the new division that will carry out residual functions of NESol, which will accelerate the pace of increasing access to energy solutions.
Williams urged the team to increase the pace at which the ministry and its various public bodies work.
“There are many Jamaicans still to be lifted out of poverty and that the pace of implementation of programmes is tied to the progress that the country makes and to the quality of life of Jamaicans,” she said.
The statement mentioned that ministries are required to hold quarterly performance reviews as part of the performance monitoring and evaluation framework in the public sector.
