She’s Irie can make further improvement – trainer Patrick Lynch
Despite She’s Irie’s powerful and impressive win in a Restricted Stakes event going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on Monday (October 21), trainer Patrick Lynch believes his three-year-old American- bred bay filly still has more to offer.
“She’s [ She’s Irie] is a nice filly, who is on the improve and hopefully she is going to progress even more. Today [Monday] she got a chance to relax and she delivered.
“She ran a beautiful race but still has a lot of advancement to make.
“My hope is that if she can better her time of 1:55.2 for nine furlongs and 25 yards then with a bit more improvement she will probably do better. Despite her good performance, I do not think that she’s at her best at present,” Lynch intimated in his post-race interview.
Ridden by capable apprentice Kiaman McGregor, She’s Irie ( Boys At Tosconova – JBS Golden Regret) came with a strong run on the inside rails in deep stretch to better She’s An Introvert (Christopher Mamdeen) and Princess Ava (Ameth Robles) by two lengths going away.
The race, which was confined to imported three-year-olds and upwards non-winners of three and native-bred three-year-olds and native-bred four-year-olds non-winners of four, saw Code of Honor (Roger Hewitt) as the first to show on the lead tracked by Universal Boss (Paul Francis) and Baltusrol (Reyan Lewis) going into the first turn.
Then Universal Boss took over at the six-furlong (1,200m) point and at that time Princess Ava, She’s An Introvert and She’s Irie began their runs for challenging spots.
Princess Ava surged to the lead coming off the home bend and looked likely to win, but She’s Irie produced her statement of intent on the inside rails and the momentum carried her to her second victory on local soil after debuting back in May. Splits for the race were 25.3 x 49.0 x 1:13.4 and 1:44.1.
