Jamaica’s top three-year-old and Triple Crown winner, Supreme Soul is entered to compete in this year’s Caribbean Classic at Gulfstream Park in Florida in December.

This disclosure was made by leading trainer and conditioner of Supreme Soul, Anthony Nunes in an interview with The Supreme Racing Guide.

With the outstanding overall performances of Supreme Soul in his age group races and against older horses, trainer Nunes was asked to comment on the move to acquire international exposure.

“I must say that I am heartened for the horse, the groom and the owner as they are the ones who made it happen and I am only part of the team.

“The horse is the real architect, he made it possible and the groom who is with him [ Supreme Soul] 24 hours a day. With this commitment and achievement, the owner gave us the opportunity by purchasing such a nice horse and it is good that we are going to be in the Caribbean Classic.”

When asked how confident he was participating in such a prestigious race, Nunes explained:

“I am aware that a lot of people are disappointed with the horse’s last two runs; the truth is, though, we have to draw a line through the Superstakes where he bled through Lasix for the first time in his career and that was why he ran the way he did.

“We then decided to race Supreme Soul in a seven–and-a-half furlong event two weeks later because I just felt that in the mornings I cannot get him to do what is required, as would a regular horse with a training routine.

“So, we needed to get him into a race and he was beaten by three–and-a-half lengths but he did not run as bad as people think.

“He did get beaten by 3 ½ lengths on a speed-laden track where he carried 57.0 kgs, finishing in sixth place, but he still ran 1:31.4.

“Despite this, he still came out of the race nice and happy and after the Diamond Mile, the next two days we will leave for the Caribbean Classic,” Nunes informed.
