650 lbs of ganja seized in Westmoreland, two men arrested
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Two men were arrested after the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard intercepted their vessel off the coast of Negril, Westmoreland on Tuesday, October 22.
The men have been identified as 36-year-old Shamar Hamilton, a taxi operator of Smithfield in Westmoreland and 32-year-old Perry Denmark of Runaway Bay in St Ann.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the vessel was searched about 3:00 pm and approximately 650 pounds of compressed ganja found on board.
The drug has an estimated street value of J$2.6 million, the CCU said.
According to the Narcotics Police, both men were charged jointly with the offences of Possession of ganja, Dealing in ganja, Taking steps preparatory to export ganja, and Conspiracy and use of conveyance.
Hamilton and Denmark are scheduled to appear before the Westmoreland Parish Court today Wednesday, October 30.
