MoDA is coming: Jamaica’s creative industry takes centrestage

Bringing fashion to the frontier of the global stage, The Collection MoDA is on a mission to transform the fashion ecosystem by exposing the hidden, uncut, raw talent of Jamaican creatives.

As high anticipation stirs for the annual fashion exhibition, The Collection MoDA is lining up a series of dazzling events, that will not only have you wanting more but developing a greater value for creatives in the region.

Establishing a viable platform where creatives can capitalize on their artistic juices, The Collection MoDA has provided a business platform for designers and creative thinkers across the island to show the world what they are missing out on.

Founder, Kerry Ann Clarke told BUZZ that through the opportunity afforded by MoDA, several creatives have been able to develop a sound entrepreneurial mindset that they can benefit from.

“The Collection MoDA has successfully moved a number of creatives (makers) from concept to business over the years,” she said.

She advanced her point to say each arm of the MoDA umbrella serves a unique and important function as it seeks to unravel the potential hidden within Jamaica, and the company is committed to reshaping the fashion community in the region.

“The MoDA platform hosts a series of subsidiary brands; MoDA Runway; MoDA Market; MoDA Mag; MoDA Mural and MoDA Talks. All the MoDa brands are designed to achieve our mandate of fostering the growth of the region’s creative industries. We are essentially a trade show platform,” she shared with BUZZ.

Clarke recounts that the MoDA Collection was conceived out of the need to provide a platform that allowed creatives to tell their story.

“Designers and artisans alike would visit KERRY manwomanhome requesting that I sell their makes in the boutique… pretty soon I decided that a platform was necessary for these creatives… and the MoDA series of events was born,” she said.

For the very first time, Caribbean Export has joined forces with the MoDA collection in an effort to bolster efforts in recognising the important role that creatives play in the Caribbean.

“We are also very excited that Caribbean Export has come on for the first time as a partner this year, and as such, we are getting closer to realising the vision of promoting Caribbean creative talent,” she informed BUZZ.

“Exciting Times! We have also added a Night Market for the

first time this year, and so, the series will be for four solid consecutive

days,” she added.
