Jamaica Stock Exchange recognized on New York’s Wall Street for its outstanding performance
The Jamaican flag was flown outside the New York Stock Exchange building on Wednesday (Nov 6) in recognition of the Jamaica Stock Exchange being the best performing stock exchange for 2018.
Though it ranks 60 in terms of volume, the stock exchange has performed consistently having also achieved a similar feat just four years ago, in 2015. The stock exchange is now up 30 per cent since the start of the year.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness took to Twitter to describe it as a great achievement for our island. He also described the performance of the stock exchange as exceptionally well.
Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Marlene Street Forrest was interviewed by Bloomberg about the achievement which she attributed to the performance of the economy and the confidence of the business community. She further asserted that it’s due to the hard work of the exchange engaging with the business community.
