Trevor ‘Slicer’ Simpson gets his first Diamond Mile ride
Trevor Simpson, a five-time jockey champion, is back home after plying his riding skills on the North American circuit, mainly in Canada, he will ride for the first time in the Diamond Mile.
“Slicer” as Simpson is popularly known among racing fans has been chosen to partner Another Bullet for trainer Patrick Lynch.
“It is a long time since I have ridden in a race such as the Diamond Mile in Jamaica.
“This race involves the 16 best-performing horses in training, where judgement and application are of extreme importance, it is more than a pleasure to be getting my first taste of the Diamond Mile challenge.
“I saw the race for the first time in 2017 and said to myself that I would really like to have a go in a top-of-the-line race like this, having ridden and won a number of big races in the United States and Canada, and from then on I wanted to secure a good ride after watching the race.
“I returned to Jamaica last year but did not get to ride. I, however, decided to return to Jamaica this year and with better luck, I was able to get a ride to partner Another Bullet.
“This for me is a good ride and I am pleased to once again experience how it feels to ride in a race of this quality on home soil.
“ Another Bullet is a speedy type with eight furlongs quite a good distance for him to be competitive. He is exercising quite well and should be able to give a good account of himself by performing well after the starter sends them on their way.
“Since riding overseas, I have won some good races but probably nothing as competitive and as creative as this Diamond Mile event will present,” Simpson shared with this publication.
