JFF Women’s football KO quarters on today
The quarter-finals of the 2019 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Lascelles Employees and Partners Co-Operative Credit Union Women’s Premier League football knockout competition gets underway today.
At Drewsland Mini Stadium, Olympic Gardens FC will go up against UWI Women’s FC at 2:00 pm in the curtain-raiser, while defending champions Waterhouse FC tackle Frazsiers Whip FC at 4:00 pm.
Cavalier FC meet Real Mona FC in the first of two games at 2:00 pm, while Arnett Gardens take on Real Mobay AFC in the second game at 4:00 pm at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Based on the performances of the four more established teams — Waterhouse, Cavalier, Olympic Gardens, and Arnett Gardens during the preliminary rounds — they are expected to come out as winners and book their spot in the semi-finals.
Waterhouse, who topped Zone A with 25 points, should easily brush aside their less-fancied rivals Frazersiers Whip, who finished fourth in Zone B on 12 points.
The Xavier Gilbert team has so far racked up 64 goals with seven against and will once again look to the competition’s leading goal scorer Shantel Bailey (21 goals). Davia Richards, who has so far scored 15 goals, should give support.
In the opening game, Olympic Gardens, who finished second in Zone A on 24 points, look far more advanced than UWI Women’s, and should book their place in the semi-finals without the minimum of fuss.
Olympic Gardens, the only team to have beaten Waterhouse this season courtesy of a 6-2 victory, have so far scored 45 goals with six against.
UWI Women’s, who finished third in Zone B on 17 points, have scored 21 goals with 11 against.
Cavalier, coached by Everdean Scarlett, topped Zone B on 27 points, netting 41 goals with three against.
It should be a walk in the park for them against Real Mona FC, who finished fourth in Zone A on 12 points. Arnett Gardens, who finished second in Zone B on 25 points, have scored 50 goals with five against, and look superior to Real Mobay, who finished third in Zone A on 12 points.
