Transport Ministry launches new training programme for PPV operators
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A signing ceremony for a tripartite agreement between the Transport Authority, EduFocal and British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC) for the development of the new PPV Driver/Conductor Training Programme will take place tomorrow, November 21 at the Ministry of Transport and Mining in Kingston.
Portfolio Minister Robert Montague is expected to deliver the keynote address at the official signing ceremony.
Noting that the existing training programme is currently delivered by the HEART Trust NTA, the ministry said that with sponsorship from BCIC, the partnership will see the development of an online software platform and interactive training content.
According to the ministry, in May 2018 the minister during his sectoral debate tabled a 16 point proposal which included strategies to professionalise the public passenger transport sector through training and development of operators.
The ministry said that the Transport Authority entered a series of negotiations with private sector entities to provide an enhanced training programme utilizing unconventional training methodologies.
