Jamaica’s Junior Mayors Programme to get more funds
Funds for the island’s Junior Mayors Programme will be increased from $500,000 to $750,000 by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development.
According to Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie the junior mayors have used the money given to do excellent community development work.
“The allocation presently stands at $500,000, and even at $500,000 some of the projects that the junior mayors have come up with are outstanding,” he said.
“We intend to increase the allowance for the Junior Mayors Programme to $750,000 because the legacy of these projects will speak for themselves.”
McKenzie was speaking at the Youth Mayors’ Forum at St James Municipal Corporation offices in Montego Bay, which had the island’s current junior mayors discussing the theme ‘Building resilient communities through local governance’.
